The Long Dark: All Emergency Stim Locations

Here's where you can find Emergency Stims in The Long Dark.

In a jam, there are some stimulants in The Long Dark that can be taken as a last resort. Coffee is a nice pick-me-up to improve 10 percent of your Fatigue and reduce further Fatigue for an hour. However, Go! Energy Drinks and Emergency Stims provide a much higher Fatigue reduction, but come with some uncomfortable after effects.

Stims are a very limited resource, instantly restoring 15 percent of your condition permanently, and allowing you to sprint continuously for one minute, regardless of broken ribs, sprains, or other afflictions. This is a life-saver if you need to climb a rope while exhausted or outrun a bear while at 6 percent condition.

If you managed to clamber your way up to the little yellow plane that Mackenzie flew in on, you will be rewarded with one of ten guaranteed Emergency Stims. The plane can be found in the north-east of the map, following a small trail between the cliffs and past a few frozen ponds. At the head of the plane, which is caught between two tree trunks, there is a green wooden crate. In the snow beside it will be a handy Stim.

One of the main buildings in Desolation Point is the Lonely Lighthouse, a reasonably good spot to set up a base as it has a fireplace, a bed and some storage. Beside the bed on the second floor is a wooden cabinet with shelves. By crouching down, you should be able to spot an Emergency Stim on the bottom shelf. Beneath the bed are also some snacks to be retrieved.

One of the many rewards for climbing to the top of Timberwolf Mountain is of course the loot within the original plane crash. The Tail Section can be found up here, holding such items as Cured Pelts, weapons, high tier clothing, MREs, rare tools and even a Stim.

On the opposite side of the cabin door are some green crates and a container that needs a hacksaw to cut open. On the floor between them is the Emergency Stim, often sitting beside a discarded newspaper. You might need a keen eye to pick up on smaller items in the cargo hold.

Head west along the gully from the Broken Bridge until you find a climbing spot. There won't be a rope there, but there are a few on this map to pick up. Walking back east over the wreckage of the bridge, you should come across a corpse. Next to the body will always be an Emergency Stim that will hopefully save you from ending up the same way. Once you get to the Hunting Lodge there will also always be one either in a box in the bathroom, or on the shelf underneath the wardrobe in one of the bedrooms.

Another ravine, but this one is actually its own region. There is, however, a ravine within this ravine that leads to Bleak Inlet, and that is the ravine with the Stim. Confused yet? On the Mystery Lake side of this map, lower a Mountaineering Rope down into the lower ravine. Here you'll find a tram car, part of the fallen train, and a corpse. There's also some deer and rabbits, as well as some warm caves to camp in. Beside the container in the tram you'll always find an Emergency Stim and often a Distress Pistol nearby.

There are a few spots in this cave that can spawn the Stim, but one will always be in here. This is the transition zone between Pleasant Valley and Coastal Highway, and is mostly pitch black, so bring a light source. About halfway through there is a small metal containment 'room' with some shelving.

The Stim can turn up on one of the shelves next to the first aid kit. Alternatively, on the collapsed wooden stairs there is a green container, next to which the Stim might also be found.

Up on the Marsh Ridge is the safest you'll ever be on the Forlorn Muskeg map. There are no predators, and only the resident moose to watch out for. Right next to the path into Mountain Town Basin is a shallow cave. There's no warmth bonus in here, but it might shelter you from some wind. There's usually a book, a container, a rucksack and an Emergency Stim there.

The long winding path over rickety bridges and between sheer rock faces that eventually leads to the Gold Mine must first go past Wolf's Jaw Overlook. It's a scenic stop, and great for a cartography break. Coming up to this picnic spot, if you keep your eye trained along the rock surface on your left, a Stim will always spawn in a crag. It's easy to miss, but can save your life if you need to climb a rope quickly.

The Pleasant Valley Farm's outbuildings include a fetching red barn with a truck inside that you can catch some sleep in. There's also a workbench, a fire barrel and some lockers, making it a decent base location if it weren't for the actual Farmstead nearby.

Regardless, this is a spot to check for some great equipment, including a Stim that can turn up either under the big toolbox upstairs, or on the floor of the truck.

There are a couple of places on Great Bear Island that have a chance of spawning an Emergency Stim, but it's not guaranteed like the previous ones. The Broken Railroad is the place to hit up as it's possible for three to spawn on this map. The third you might find will be inside a wooden crate in the maintenance shed. There are quite a few, but the Stim will be in one of the crates on the metal shelf overhanging the truck.

The final, not-guaranteed Stim can spawn in the Hunter's Blind, beside the Unnamed Pond. It'll be on the floor and can be accompanied by a survival bow and some arrows, as long as you're not in Interloper difficulty. A bear cave is right next to this Blind, making it a great place to hunt and then almost die to a bear. Just remember to use that Stim.
