OAK LAWN, IL — Three masked and armed robbers burst into an Oak Lawn jewelry store Friday afternoon and shot an employee who confronted them as they busted glass display cases, police said. The employee is in critical, but stable condition, at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Just before 2 p.m., Oak Lawn police said three men wearing masks entered Reichman Jewelers, 4439 W. 95th St. The robbers drew their guns and disarmed the security guard, before proceeding to the glass display cases.

As the robbers began breaking the glass and taking jewelry, a store employee emerged from the rear of the store. The robbers shot the employee twice and exited the store, police said.

The three drove west through the alley behind the store in a silver, 4-door sedan. The store employee was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical but stable condition.

The suspects are described as male blacks. One was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, another a white T-shirt. A clothing description was not available for the third suspect.

Oak Lawn police tweeted that the suspects are believed to have left the area. A helicopter hovered over the area for several hours Friday afternoon.
