While maintenance is still occurring on the right side of the building entrance, the rest of the construction work appears to have been completed at the Boca Chica building at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Landscaping on both sides of the entryway begin the natural feeling as you walk into the entranceway.

Coming into the building, a seating area is on the right, with two chairs and an outlet to charge your device. A whimsical blue and pink wallpaper adds to the new theming of the resort, with modern updates and nods towards Mary Poppins.

Opposite the seating area is a display shelf, with trinkets adding the the theme. The light décor makes the room feel large and airy.

Blue and pink birds are shown resting on trees with pink, white, and peach flowers, this is an elegant backdrop.

The lights in the entryway are a reflective silver with silver plated branches that tie into the natural theme of the update.

The opposite entryway features the same design as the first, with every detail being identical between the two sides.

Walking into the building’s lobby, you can see several large seating areas.

Light furniture adorns this seating area, with modern tables providing a place to rest your items. A floral pattern on the chairs ties with the wallpaper, as does the rose carpeting.

A variety of pillows keep the colors and theme of the room in mind, adding variety while not overpowering the subtle theming elsewhere in the lobby. Nearby plants add to the natural feeling of the lobby.

Next to it, a more intimate seating area accommodates smaller parties. Bronze rivets on the chair tie in with the sculpted table.

Pillows on the chairs brighten up the darker fabric chairs, and continue the floral elements found throughout the rest of the lobby.

At the opposite end of the room, a similar seating pattern exists, with another intimate seating area identical to the one across the room.

This bronze sculpted table ties in with the accents scattered across the room.

The final seating area features four light blue chairs with an oval table, and floral pillows.

Near the seating area, there is a lovely display of Mary Poppins concept artwork above a modern cabinet.

The center table of the lobby features several jars and branch-themed vessels. The white wood and marble table adds a bright centerpiece to the room.

Above the center table is a bright glass and white metal chandelier. This twisting chandelier ties in perfectly with the twisting branches seen throughout the hotel.

The upper levels provide a great view of the lobby and its decorations.

The lighting in the lobby features glass leaves branching off a golden vine.

The elevator continues the subtle yet elegant theming, with light blue and white accents on the walls, and gorgeous tilework.

The tile continues the inspiration towards nature, resembling flowers and petals.

The elevator side walls have panels of artwork featuring elegant designs.

A floral glass and gold chandelier hangs at the top of the elevator.

Upper levels of the lobby have a more subtle wallpaper, with flowers hanging from the ceiling, and silhouettes of birds flying through the branches.

As you walk to your room, you will notice the rose carpet matches the carpeting in the lobby, tying the lobby theme into the room theme well.

The Grand Floridian is not the Grand Floridian anymore. The 2007 version of the rooms was the pinnacle. It was elegant Victorian with a bit of Disney whimsy that was unique. The new focus group tested, committee decided rooms make no effort to echo the traditional themes of the resort.

You can create a Victorian themed room with Disney touches that complements Main Street at the Magic Kingdom perfectly as the Grand Floridian formerly did, Disneyland Hotel Paris formerly did, Tokyo Disneyland Hotel still does, and Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel still does. Even the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel manages it, albeit in a more art nouveau theme.

The Grand Floridian has lost its identity and the quintessential elements that made it a unique destination worthy of the price. There was a time to stay no where else when visiting Disney World, but the service and amenity curtailments coupled with the loss of the uniqueness of the rooms over the years eviscerates any utility in staying here.

Did they replace the mattresses? The current ones are awful with dips in them.
