Fine art, festivals and free rugs for teachers are among the special events on the calendar in San Diego this week.

ArtWalk Carlsbad is returning to the city’s Armada Drive on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The same team that organizes Mission Fed ArtWalk and ArtWalk Liberty Station also presents the iconic Carlsbad fine art show, which this year will be free for the first time to all attendees.

The ocean-view event draws artists from throughout the region and across the country and features extraordinary art in every style, medium and price point. Paintings, glasswork, sculpture, photography, fine jewelry and more will be on display and for sale.

In addition to the art, the show features live music and an interactive art section called KidsWalk. Food will be available for purchase, along with wine and beer options for adults 21 and over.

ArtWalk Carlsbad runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25.

The San Diego Spirits Festival is shaking things up for its 13th year with a move to the newly renovated Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in La Jolla.

San Diego’s annual spirits extravaganza will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25, featuring unlimited cocktails from over 60 brands, live music and entertainment, access to MOCA’s galleries and more.

Festival hours are 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25. Tickets start at $85

Get ready to groove in Normal Heights when the ever-popular 40th annual Adams Avenue Street Fair rolls in next weekend.

The two-day music festival is free and includes a lineup of 65 musical acts on six stages, including Starcrawler and Gaslamp Killer Experience featuring Drumetics. Carnival rides, beer gardens with beer tastings, food spots and 300 arts and crafts booths will also be available. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25.

The Craft Beer Taste will offer sips from 20 breweries for $25 across from the Starbucks Stage from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday only.

In appreciation of local teachers and all they do, Coles Fine Flooring is giving away a free area rug for the classroom from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, while supplies last. Numbers will be given out starting at 7 a.m. at Cole’s San Diego and San Marcos locations starting at 7:30 a.m.

Quantities are limited and rugs will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

San Diego Ballet is turning up the heat and feeling the rhythm for the beginning of their fall season with “Signature Moves,” a performance merging Latin rhythms and ballet.

This program will feature two of San Diego Ballet’s audience favorites, “Que Bonito Amor,” performed to live mariachi music, and “Mambomania,” one of Artistic Director Javier Velasco’s signature works.

Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 at Southwestern College Performing Arts Center. Ticket prices range from $15 to $45.

The new Tom Cruise movie, “Top Gun: Maverick” will have movie enthusiasts at the edge of their seats next weekend at the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater at Balboa Park’s Fleet Science Center.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film screens at 5:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Sept. 23-25. Tickets are $19.95 and museum members get the service fee waived. Free parking is located behind the building at 1875 El Prado.

The Lemon Grove Lions Club is hosting a Cornhole Tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday at Lemon Grove VFW, 2885 Lemon Grove Ave.

Bring a partner; entry fee is $35 per person. The event will also feature food, beer and fun and it costs nothing to watch.

Proceeds will go to causes including the Fisher House, a charity that builds homes where military and veterans families can stay free of charge while a loved one is in the hospital.
