LOCK HAVEN — Art and music lovers alike won’t want to miss out on the 7th Annual LH JAMS Music and Art Festival.

The event, organized by the Clinton County Arts Council, is putting its art and craft vendors in the spotlight even more during this year’s event on Saturday, Aug. 13.

CCAC President Carol Cillo said this year’s festival will put the arts on a bigger display. Not only will there be vendors lining Main Street — some of those vendors will be showcasing their work.

That includes jewelry maker, Stephanie Distler.

Distler isn’t new to the JAMS scene, having been invited to set up in 2018.

“The festival brings me back because of the talented individuals involved, the amazing live music and the vibe the entire event lends to creatives as a selling venue,” Distler said.

A self-taught artist, Distler has been creating things for as long as she can remember.

“The process of sketching, gardening, learning to embroider, knitting or making jewelry has always been a part of who I am,” she said.

Distler initially made beaded pieces and fiber art — using handmade felt and beads — before shifting to metal work around 2010.

“Over the years, the jewelry and mixed media techniques have continually drawn inspiration from those rural traditions that were once everyday life for our ancestors,” she said. “A more tactile life of being a part of the process of just living, has become a need in this age of technology for me and so many others.”

Distler describes herself as an artisan coming from PA Wilds Roots with Rural Organic style.

“The working studio is housed in our home and focuses on ‘made by these hands’ designs, inspired by nature. These pieces carry with them a sense of place,” she said. “Digging in the garden, hiking in the PA Wilds, shopping for fresh produce at the local farmers’ market, enjoying an IPA at a craft brewery or antiquing on Main Street, these designs are reminders of our downtime.”

Distler, fifth generation Johnsonburg native, wife to a building contractor, mother of three talented daughters, grandmother of three spectacular granddaughters, artisan and owner of Stephanie Distler Studios, professional level Creative Maker member of Wilds Cooperative of PA (WCO), as well as, contracted Engagement Specialist for the WCO, president of Johnsonburg Community Trust, co-founder/manager of Johnsonburg Farmers’ & Artisans’ Market and board member/treasurer of Elk County Council on the Arts.

Keep an eye out for Distler during LH JAMS outdoor festival on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. until well into the evening.

This year, JAMS is a three-day event featuring nearly a dozen bands. It begins on Thursday, Aug. 11, with “Rockin’ the Roxy” featuring Chris LaRose and the Hex Highway Band and Desert Highway, an Eagles Tribute Band. Those interested in attending may purchase a ticket in advance at lhjams.org. Proceeds benefit future LH JAMS festivals and to jump start the Jeff Gummo CCAC Scholarship for the arts.

On Friday, Aug. 12, a block party will take place in downtown Lock Haven beginning at 6 p.m. Main Street from Jay to Vesper and Grove Street from Church to Water will be closed as two State College-based bands — Ted McCloskey and the Hi Fi’s and Velveeta — bring the best rock from years gone by. Attendees can either bring a chair to sit in the street or make a reservation at one of the downtown’s many restaurants.
